About Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts is the Boy Scouts of America program for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. It is a program where youth develop the foundations for leadership, citizenship, and personal fitness through fun activities involving parents and legal guardians.

Cub Scouting activities are designed for Scouting families to get in on the fun, and include exploring the outdoors, building projects, making friends, and developing a lifelong love of learning as Cub Scouts earn patches related to their grades.

Cub Scouting encourages family fun while providing youth with a safe space to make friends and challenge themselves through age-appropriate activities. It is a program where children and parents feel like they belong to an organization that consistently reinforces worthwhile values like honesty, good conduct, and respect for others.

About Pack 21

Cub Scouts Pack 21 is chartered by the Americus Kiwanis Club. Jason Williams is our Cubmaster. We are open to all children in the Americus/Sumter County area in 5k through 5th grade between the ages of 5 and 11 years old. Our regular meetings are held on Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. at the scout hut located at the corner of Dodson St and Elm Ave in Americus, GA. Throughout the year, we also have several offsite meetings and special events. Special events through the year include Pinewood Derby racing, camping, hiking, parades, and service projects. Parents/guardians, siblings, and other family members are always welcome to attend any meeting or event.

We feed into Scouts BSA Troop 21.  Scouts who reach 12 years of age and/or complete 5th grade and/or complete the Arrow of Light cross over to Troop 21.

We share the scout hut with Troop 21. Some special events through the year, such as parades and Pinewood Derby, may involve one or more other units as well.

How Cub Scouts works

Cub Scouts are grouped by age and complete a set of "adventures" as they work toward a rank badge. In addition to the required adventures, scouts can choose from a variety of elective adventures.

First year scouts, except for kindergarteners, first work toward the Bobcat badge. This introduces scouts to the basic principles behind Cub Scouting. Scouts then work with their age group and their family to complete their adventures. They need not have earned the previous rank in order to earn the next.  Each of the ranks in Cub Scouting has its own requirements that are age appropriate, so earning a rank below a Cub Scout’s current grade is not permitted. As a Cub Scout advances through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities they have learned.

Cub Scouts gradually learn about topics including physical fitness and healthy eating, knots, pocket knife and tool safety, fire safety, first aid, cooking, camping and outdoor skills, good citizenship, leadership, and duty to God. Click here to learn more about the advancement trail.
